Thanks guys for the response!

Ok maybe the common language does not best define if Egyptians are Arabs or not. But now I'm a little worried of the thought that some may use DNA to prove that they are not Arabs. It sounds like the racists Nazis who used the same technique to include or exclude people from the 'Aryan race'.

So if it is not the language that defines the Arabs, what is it?

Missing the point a little bit actually; since language is not the 'only' factor that determines identity. It's one of many factors, a strong one I admit, but not enough to make it 100% sure that Egypt - for example - is an Arabian country.

Other examples: Argentina speaks Spanish, but are they really 'Spanish'? the same with Brazil & Portuguese, Canada with English & French, Senegal with French, etc...

Waleed,

I speak Arabic as well as, or better than, most educated Arabs, but my Anglo-Saxon/Germanic ancestry hardly qualifies me as an Arab.

Hello Waleed …..First of all this my first time to visit your page, I really find it interesting,
I totally agree with you about disliking the idea of grouping people, but as a fact maybe sad but still a fact, people are grouped!!!!
Any way about your point Egyptians are they Arabs or not, well I don’t think its only about language there must be another reason because if that was the only reason then we are way to far of being Arabs, through Egyptian history Egypt has been speaking all kinds of languages Turkish , French , English and before all that Coptic and Greek , Arabic was just another language introduced by Muslims who came form ( Shebh Algariza Al Arabia)
So for the Egyptian history its just one more added language, As a Historical Fact , AL-Hakim Biamrallah (997 -1020 AD ) was the first to make Arabic the official language simply because he didn’t know any other languages and NOT BECAUSE OF RELIGION BELIVES (sorry for the caps but I don’t use religion to justify things) – he was the first Fatime's to be born in Egypt – After That Turkish was added side by side to Arabic Until Gamal Abd El Nasser some where in the early 50's announced Arabic Only to be the Official language and that was to show that Egypt was no longer following the Ottoman's – ( Egypt's independence was recognized since 1922 we only had English troops and English interference until 1953 .So we didn’t have English as an official language )

So now you have two ways to figure this out Arabic is 1000 years old in Egypt or 50 years old!! In a 7000 year old country.

Last but not least Coptic is still the Official Language of the Alexandria Church
People still consider Talking French and English a must may be because global requirements or maybe because they still think it's our second language.

So Lets think of something else why are we called Arabs !!!!!
